Gianfranco Ferré. Drawings

From Gianfranco Ferré’s notes: “To draw, for me, means to put a spontaneous idea on paper so that I can later analyse, check, verify and refine it, reducing the basic elements to synthetic and precise lines, set on diagonals and parallels and enclosed within geometric forms and figures... as a designer and architect I conceive fashion as design”.

It is from his architectural training that Gianfranco Ferré derives his method, whose core lies in drawing – the foundational moment in which an idea takes shape, when intuition becomes tangible. Drawing is the medium through which Ferré can “capture impressions and give them a hint of consistency”, and which he describes as “both necessity and passion, the point of arrival in the dimension of reality and at the same time the starting point for a project”.

Ferré’s drawing book seeks to reconstruct an intellectual journey: the evolution of an inner world of research, observation, cultural and stylistic synthesis. It stands as a testimony and a stimulus for reflection, where drawing emerges as an expression of freedom and rigour, creativity and method, but also as a working tool, a daily exercise, a mental habit, a concrete approach. Above all, a method of work.
