Ferré's Lexicon 2026: Gianfranco Ferré white shirt reinterpreted by Fashion Design students at Politecnico di Milano

On the occasion of Apritimoda 2026, the Gianfranco Ferré Research Center, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Fundamentals of Fashion Design of the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano, presents the third edition of the Ferré's Lexicon.

Drawing on the knowledge preserved in the Gianfranco Ferré Historical Archive, and in particular on the study of the white shirt as the designer's archetype, the LESSICO FERRÉ project aims to pass on the stylistic codes and technical constructions of Gianfranco Ferré's design language.

First-year students of the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano, coordinated by Barbara Mugnai together with Alessandra Canonico, Marzia Devoto and Valentina Donadel, worked on four iconic archive shirts from the Gianfranco Ferré Prêt-à-porter collections: Sailor Glam (SS 1982), Ronde (SS 1993), Plastron (SS 2002) and Rabari (SS 2002).

Each shirt was studied in depth, both on the original archive garment and through the extensive documentation made available by the Gianfranco Ferré Research Center: technical drawings, runway look sketches, runway and advertising campaign photographs, as well as immersive 360° photography of the shirt itself. Through their understanding of the LESSICO FERRÉ, each project group reinterpreted and redesigned the most significant constructions and details of the Ferré shirt, translating and adapting them to the classic Polishirt pattern. This design approach fostered the development of cross-disciplinary skills in design and pattern-making through archival study and research, and led to the creation of a finished, high-quality prototype consistent with Ferré's design vision.
