Gianfranco Ferré.
Design Principles
Istituto Italiano di Cultura / Los Angeles
Gianfranco Ferré Research Center
The exhibition explores Gianfranco Ferré’s unique approach to fashion design through a selection of sketches and garments, represented by ten white shirts, the designer’s iconic piece.
The sketches, organised into thematic sections, illustrate some of the fundamental principles of design that inspire Ferré’s creative process and reveal the stylist’s own “methodology”, a dimension rarely codified in fashion.
The shirts guide visitors through an experiential journey into Ferré’s stylistic research, along a path where these same design principles materialise in countless variations on the archetype of the white shirt, a true icon of his creative work.
The exhibition is further enriched by a digital layer that connects the pieces on display with the Ferré archive and, through images and videos, expands the narrative and accompanies visitors as they explore the works.
“Design Principles is the first exhibition since the Research Center was established at the Politecnico, which made it an opportunity for reflection on the design principles underlying the work of Gianfranco Ferré, so representative of the polytechnic culture and the continuous trend towards harmonizing the culture of technology and science with that of art”.
Paola Bertola, Scientific Director, Gianfranco Ferré Research Center.
