Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion
The Gianfranco Ferré Foundation takes part in the exhibition “Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion” held at the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp from March 16 to August 14, 2011. The exhibition showcases a wide variety of knitted garments and accessories from the past centuries, with particular attention to haute couture pieces and their vernacular interpretations.
concept

The exhibition Unravel: Knitwear in Fashion addresses the important decades of knitwear in fashion, demonstrating knitwear’s popularity both on and off the catwalk, and unravelling the changing status of the relationship between knitwear and fashion. Thematically, it showcases the various roles knitwear plays in social and fashion revolutions and addresses knitwear’s different and fluid association with comfort, well-being, and chic.

With this exhibition, MoMu and Woolmark proudly present, in collaboration with partners like Cousy, one of Belgium's last knitting studios, a mix of contemporary and classic knitwear designs, as well as young designers and historical garments. The exhibition challenges certain established ideas, and shows that – far from being old-fashioned and dowdy – knitting is highly versatile, luxurious, and a continuing source of inspiration for high-end fashion.
