TRACCE. Dialoghi ad arte nel Museo della Moda e del Costume, organised in collaboration with the Galleria d’Arte Moderna at Palazzo Pitti, highlights the correspondences between the creations of designer-artists and artist-couturiers active from the 1930s to the present day, emphasising the diverse languages that succeed one another throughout a period marked by significant shifts in aesthetic and figurative codes.
The exhibition evokes and brings back into focus voices that have been lost or rendered silent by familiar interpretative frameworks. Installed at the Museo della Moda e del Costume, it revolutionises the display criteria traditionally adopted for this kind of project: the works on view – 107 garments, accessories, paintings and sculptures – no longer follow “dominant categories” accompanied by discreet “supporting elements”, but instead engage in an active dialogue. Every object becomes a protagonist, interacting with the others and with its own reflection in the mirrors that define the installation, creating an evocative and immersive effect that expands the space and replicates the lines, colours and light that enhance the forms.
The presentation of garments and artworks is not strictly chronological, offering an alternative reading that privileges formal correspondences while highlighting shared cultural contexts. This approach seeks affinities of signs and motifs both among the garments themselves and between these and the paintings and sculptures displayed across the various sections.
On this occasion, the museum also presents to the press the new storage facility for garments and textiles from the extensive collection of the Museo della Moda e del Costume, located at Palazzo Pitti in the new wing adjacent to the original storage area.
