L’Arte Della Moda
Museo Civico San Domenico / Forlì
Museo Civico San Domenico
The exhibition The Art of Fashion. The Age of Dreams and Revolutions. 1789-1968 is dedicated to the fascinating relationship between art and fashion. The period under consideration spans three centuries, from the Ancien Régime to the late twentieth century.
An exhibition itinerary built on juxtapositions, bringing together more than three hundred works, including paintings, sculptures, accessories, historical garments, and contemporary creations. This Forlì exhibition, the first of its kind, takes on the scale of a true blockbuster. The works – ranging from the eighteenth century through the French Revolution, Romanticism, the Macchiaioli, Impressionism, Symbolism, and all the avant-gardes of the twentieth century up to the present – outline a relationship in which art and fashion mirror one another, generate one another, and intertwine until they become closely related languages. Art reflects fashion, shapes it, and becomes fashion; and fashion, in turn, fully enters the realm of the arts.
