L’Arte del Bijou Italiano
The Gianfranco Ferré Foundation takes part in the exhibition “L’Arte del Bijou Italiano” (The Art of Italian Bijou), staged in the Arazzi Rooms on the main floor of Palazzo Reale from 19 February to 2 March 2016. The exhibition unfolds through 300 unique pieces, tracing a journey across artist-designed bijoux from the 1950s to the 2000s.
concept

Poised between limited editions and industrial productions, L’Arte del Bijou Italiano reveals, through these artist-designed objects, the distinctively Italian ability to unite manufacturing excellence with formal beauty, technological innovation with high artisanal traditions. It charts a history of stylistic and fashion evolution that places Milan at its creative and productive centre.

The exhibition becomes a journey through time, guiding visitors to discover creations conceived for leading designers such as Giorgio Armani, Ugo Correani, Gianfranco Ferré, Franco Moschino, Luciano Soprani, Valentino and Gianni Versace. From the refined elegance of 1960s bijoux – conceived during the years of the economic boom and growing optimism – to the deconstructed forms of the 1970s reflecting widespread protest movements; from the opulence and display-driven spirit of the 1980s to the restraint of the 1990s and the experimental language of the 2000s, the narrative traces the shifting aesthetics of five transformative decades.
