The exhibition “Ferré e Comte. DETTAGLI. Grandi interpreti tra moda e arte”, hosted in the rooms on the first and second floors of the Palazzo del Governatore in Parma, brings together the sartorial genius of Gianfranco Ferré and the photographic art of Michel Comte, as part of the initiatives commemorating the bicentenary of Maria Luigia of Austria’s arrival in Parma.

Strongly supported and promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Parma, the dual exhibition Ferré/Comte was conceived with the aim of offering, within the initiatives dedicated to enhancing the region on the occasion of the bicentenary of the arrival of Duchess Maria Luigia of Habsburg-Lorraine, an event that looks towards contemporaneity, hosted in one of the city’s most prestigious and historic places.

On the first floor of the Palazzo del Governatore, the exhibition Gianfranco Ferré e Maria Luigia: inattese assonanze takes shape, curated by Gloria Bianchino and Alberto Nodolini in collaboration with the Gianfranco Ferré Foundation. The second floor hosts Michel Comte’s installations for the exhibition Neoclassic, curated by Jens Remes in collaboration with Alberto Nodolini and Anna Tavani.

Gianfranco Ferré e Maria Luigia: inattese assonanze, made possible thanks to the essential contribution of the Gianfranco Ferré Foundation, presents a wide selection of Haute Couture and Prêt-à-Porter creations, the result of a research process aimed at identifying “unexpected resonances” between certain expressions of Ferré’s style and the passions, tastes and times of the “Good Duchess.”

The exhibition plays on the details of costume history, reinterpreted through Ferré’s creative genius in the language of fashion. This is revealed through sixty magnificent garments on display, accompanied by preparatory sketches. The exhibition path, both emotional and philological, unfolds through distinct environments that outline a narrative not so much defined in historical or chronological terms, but rather built around the tastes, passions and fascinations of the era – and above all, of its protagonist, Maria Luigia.

“The presence of Gianfranco Ferré designs within the context of the exhibition meets the criteria we follow in managing his creative legacy, which for us is the object of constant study and research. Working systematically with this multifaceted and heterogeneous patrimony enables us to deal with it according to a flexible logic, thanks to which it’s not impossible to draw from what Ferré created – and consequently propose – ever new and different impressions that might surprise and often even amaze us. Impressions that are therefore unexpected, as in the case of these “assonances” with the tastes and passions of Maria Luigia and her times”.

Rita Airaghi, Director of the Gianfranco Ferré Foundation.
