Origin-Passion and Beliefs
Origin-Passion and Beliefs is a project that seeks to take the risk of provoking new reflections and new actions in shaping contemporary imaginaries, moulded by creativity, the market and the new geographies of desire. As part of the initiative, two exhibitions are presented: Corporeality: The Jewel According to Gianfranco Ferré and Carmina Campus Space Waste, which offer contrasting yet extraordinary experiences, each unique within the field of research into body adornment.
Corporeality: Il gioiello secondo Gianfranco Ferré (Corporeality: The Jewel According to Gianfranco Ferré) explores the relationship between fashion and jewellery – or rather, the relationship between fashion and those objects that occupy or complete the sartorial project of fashion designers. Ferré makes it immediately clear that his jewellery is inherently linked to the physicality of the body and its joints, and that these pieces are essential elements for enhancing the construction of the garment. On display is a selection of remarkable pieces in wood and gold-laminated nappa leather, created by Ferré for his collections between 1987 and 1993 – objects distinguished by a material exploration capable of evoking atmospheres suspended between the ethnic and the glamorous.
“Jewellery as an essential element for enhancing the key points of the figure: the base of the head emphasised by earrings; the neck – which connects the head to the torso and shoulders, and is therefore the ‘cardinal point’ of my silhouette – given importance through necklaces and chains; the arms and wrists adorned with an abundance of bracelets; the waist marked by jewel-belts beneath which the legs extend in a sinuous line. I could even say that, in my imagination, jewellery helps me to ‘construct’ the body, to sculpt it with clarity”.
Gianfranco Ferré, notes.
