“Orlando” shirt. Mannish shirt with front opening, deep figure-flattering tucks front and back. Fabric-covered button closure. High tab collar. Leg of mutton sleeves with gathering in the upper part, snug white leather bracelets above the elbow, and at the forearm for accent. A pleated/gathered white tulle French cuff with double lace edging is applied on the inside of the sleeve bottom (15 cm or so from the wrist). A bracelet of ever-smaller, soft, white leather bows adorns the right sleeve. The outstanding feature of this design is the original construction of the sleeves, which adopts an elegant and contemporary styling language. While the shape and volume of the shoulders draw inspiration from late 19th-century women’s fashion, the lavish cuff adds an extra flourish, very much in the 18th-century mode. Nicely offsetting the historical references are the technical white leather bracelets that regulate the length of sleeves. Here, too, the simple, moderate mannequin cut of the shirt heightens, though artful contrast, the regal impact of the latter.
